Two Days in Rome: How to Eat All the Pizza and Gelato Before You Can Say 'Ciao!

Are you ready for a whirlwind tour of Rome that involves eating all the pizza and gelato you can handle? Then buckle up, because we've got a two-day itinerary that will have you saying "Ciao!" to the Eternal City with a full stomach and a happy heart.

Day 1:

Morning: Start your day off right with a classic Italian breakfast of cappuccino and cornetto (a croissant-like pastry). Then, head to the Colosseum to take in the iconic ancient amphitheater. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even take a guided tour of the underground chambers and gladiator tunnels.

Afternoon: After working up an appetite, it's time for some pizza! Head to Pizzeria La Montecarlo, a local favorite that's been serving up delicious pies since 1906. Try the classic Margherita or go for something a little more adventurous, like the pizza with truffles and porcini mushrooms.

Evening: After a full day of sightseeing, it's time for some gelato. Head to Gelateria del Teatro, a charming gelato shop that makes all their flavors in-house using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Try the pistachio or the ricotta and fig.

Day 2:

Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Vatican City, home to St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. Be sure to book your tickets in advance to avoid the long lines.

Afternoon: After all that culture, it's time for more pizza! Head to Pizzeria da Remo, a no-frills joint that's been serving up some of the best pizza in Rome since 1950. Try the pizza with sausage and friarielli (a type of Italian broccoli).

Evening: For your final gelato fix, head to Giolitti, a historic gelateria that's been around since 1900. Try the hazelnut or the stracciatella (chocolate chip). Then, head to Trastevere for a final dinner of classic Roman dishes like cacio e pepe or carbonara.

And just like that, your two days in Rome have come to an end. But don't worry, you can always come back for more pizza and gelato. Ciao!
